You love by paying attention. A Virgo Venus means Venus was in Virgo when you were born, and it shows up as devotion with its sleeves rolled up: you notice what someone needs, you fix it before they ask, and you quietly call that romance. Virgo is also the one sign where the traditional dignity table puts Venus “in fall”, which sounds like an insult and isn’t. It means your Venus works differently here, not worse, and this page explains exactly how.
In a birth chart Venus is read for attraction: who you want, how you flirt, how you show affection, what you find beautiful and what you’ll happily spend money on. Your Sun is who you are and your Moon is what you need, but Venus decides who gets the second date. With Venus in Virgo, that decision is made slowly, on evidence, and then kept for a very long time.
Don’t know your Venus sign? Here’s a shortcut. Seen from Earth, Venus never gets more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, so only five Sun signs can have a Virgo Venus at all, and we show the sum below. Our free birth chart calculator works out your chart from your birth date, time and place.

What Does a Virgo Venus Mean?
Venus is the planet astrologers read for attraction and pleasure. Where it sits in your birth chart shows the kind of person who makes you look twice, the way you flirt and show you care, the things you find beautiful and what you’ll spend on without guilt. In our view, two people with the same Sun sign can want very different things from a partner, and Venus is a big part of why.
Virgo is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury, the planet of thinking, sorting and noticing. Put Venus there and love becomes an act of attention. You fall for people by learning them: how they take their coffee, what they’re worried about, which drawer the batteries live in. You show love by making things work. Cafe Astrology’s Venus in the Signs page puts it in one line: “Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo.”
So what is a Venusian Virgo? Read plainly, it’s someone with Venus in Virgo. They might be a Leo, a Libra or a Cancer in every other way, but when they love, they love like a Virgo. Quietly, carefully, with a list.
One distinction matters before we go on. A Virgo Sun is a Virgo all day: identity, ego, the way they move through the world. A Virgo Venus can belong to a theatrical Leo or a charming Libra who shows no Virgo at all until they fall for you, and then suddenly they’re reorganizing your kitchen as a love letter. If your Sun or Moon is in Virgo too, it stacks. A Virgo Moon feels this way; a Virgo Venus loves this way.
Why Is Venus in Fall in Virgo?
Astrologers grade how comfortable a planet is in each sign, and the grades are called essential dignities. A planet in a sign it rules is at home. A planet in its exaltation is an honored guest. The two uncomfortable grades mirror those: detriment is the sign opposite the planet’s home, and fall is the sign opposite its exaltation.
For Venus the table reads like this. She rules Taurus and Libra, is exalted in Pisces, is in detriment in Aries and Scorpio, and is in fall in Virgo. Check the pairs and the mirror holds: Pisces and Virgo sit directly opposite each other on the wheel, six signs and 180 degrees apart. Wikipedia’s page on exaltation describes the two ends plainly: exaltation is “a place of awareness for the planet, whereas the fall is a position of weakness concerning the function of the planet”. The same page gives a degree for the honor, the 27th degree of Pisces, and no degree for the fall, so we leave the fall at the sign.
Why would Virgo be awkward for Venus? Venus’s job is pleasure, attraction and union: enjoying something without checking it first. Virgo’s nature is inspection. It’s the sign where Mercury is exalted, where things get sorted, improved and tidied. So Venus in Virgo has to pass everything through quality control before she’s allowed to enjoy it. Love has to make sense. Affection arrives as service. A compliment comes out as a suggestion.
That is what the fall actually does. Here is what it doesn’t do: it doesn’t predict a bad love life. There is no measure of luck in love, and in our view a planet’s dignity is a note on how smoothly it runs in a sign, not a forecast of how your relationships turn out. Cafe Astrology’s whole Venus in Virgo section never uses the word fall at all. The second result on Google for this placement is titled “Why Is Venus in Virgo Fallen, but Still Stronger Than Ever”, and the title has a point. In our view a Venus that has to work at love tends to get very good at it.
Virgo Venus Traits
Strengths
- Devotion. Cafe Astrology says your appeal “lies in their dedication, their willingness to work on the relationship, and to make the relationship work in real terms”. You don’t leave when it gets boring. Boring is where you do your best work.
- Attention. You remember the name of their childhood dog and the fact that they hate cilantro. Cafe Astrology calls these “gifts of devotion and attention to details about you”, and they land harder than flowers.
- Honesty. You say the true thing, kindly if you can, and you’d rather be trusted than flattered.
- Consistency. The same person on Monday as on Saturday night. Partners relax around you because nothing is a performance.
- A taste for quality. You’d rather own one thing made properly than five that fall apart. Cafe Astrology notes this Venus spends “with care, and usually on practical items instead of frivolous ones”.
Challenges
- Criticism as affection. Cafe Astrology describes a love “of the Kindergarten variety”, where “they show they care by nagging or criticizing”. You mean it as help. It doesn’t always arrive as help.
- Holding back. You need to be sure before you move. By the time you’re sure, someone braver may have asked first.
- Loving the draft. You see what a person could be with three small changes, and you fall for that version. The real one keeps disappointing you by being real.
- Worry. You rehearse the conversation, review it afterward and grade yourself. Love has a lot of homework when Virgo is running it.
- Mistaking help for love. You do so much that you forget to simply be there. Sometimes the useful thing is to sit down.
Virgo Venus in Love
You fall slowly and on evidence. Cafe Astrology says Venus in Virgo people “quietly (and often slowly) make their way into your heart” and that they “need to be confident that you like them before they make a move”. You are not uninterested in love. A result on the first page of Google for this placement asks whether a Virgo Venus is “uninterested with the idea of love all together”, and the honest answer is the opposite. You care so much that you refuse to get it wrong.
You show love by doing. Cafe Astrology sums up the whole placement in a personal ad: “I will care for you, and do lots of little things for you. I will help you.” Errands run, appointments remembered, the thing fixed before it broke. If your Moon is in Virgo too, read Virgo Moon: the Moon feels this way, and with Venus added, it’s also how you court.
What you need back is simple and rarely given: notice. Cafe Astrology’s advice to your partners is to show “you appreciate them for all the little things they do”, because “they do these things so quietly that you may not always notice”. Be told you’re liked, in words. Be thanked for the quiet things. And be left alone a little, because you are “generally quite busy making everything work”.
The trap is the nag. You see a better way and you say so, and after a while your partner stops hearing love and starts hearing a review. The growth edge is learning that an unimproved person can still be exactly right.
How to Dress if Venus Is in Virgo
Venus also rules your taste, and in our view a Virgo Venus dresses the way it loves: fit over flash, fabric over logo, finish over everything. Natural materials that feel good and age well. Linen, cotton, wool, leather that softens. Clean lines, nothing that pulls or gapes or needs adjusting every ten minutes. You notice a loose thread across a room, so you don’t wear one.
Think small wardrobe, high standard. A capsule of pieces that all work together, in colors that don’t argue: cream, white, oatmeal, olive, navy, chocolate, the occasional deep green. Jewelry is fine and quiet: a good watch, one ring that means something, small earrings. In the old body charts Virgo rules the belly, so our rule of thumb for this placement: get the waist right and the rest of the outfit will behave.
Grooming is part of the love language. Clean nails, pressed collars, shoes that have been looked after, a scent that only the person standing next to you can smell. Cafe Astrology’s advice for pleasing this Venus works as a style rule too: “Be genuine, not ostentatious.”
The one lapse: hiding. A Virgo Venus can disappear into beige and call it taste. In our view the finish you’re so good at deserves one piece a season that makes someone look twice. Let them.

The Virgo Venus Woman
The Virgo Venus woman loves like a promise that gets kept. She’s attentive, loyal and honest, and she shows affection by making your life run better: the appointment you forgot, the problem she solved before you noticed it. These are tendencies, not rules, but she is rarely the one playing games.
In love she wants to be useful and to be seen being useful. Her trouble is that she can love someone’s potential so carefully that she forgets to enjoy the person. Her growth is letting a partner be good enough, and letting herself be looked after without checking how it’s being done.
If Virgo is also on your horizon, the first impression side of this sign is in Virgo Rising.
The Virgo Venus Man
The Virgo Venus man is steadier than his Sun sign may suggest. He might be a bold Leo or a social Libra, but in love he’s quiet, observant and far more careful than his friends suspect. Again, tendencies, not rules, but he’s the one who fixed your bike without mentioning it.
He’s drawn to competence and calm: someone who has their life in order, who doesn’t need rescuing, who notices him back. Cafe Astrology says this Venus is “attracted to nondescript people who have largely gone unnoticed”, which in our view means he falls for the person everyone else overlooked. His challenge is the running commentary: he improves things out loud, including you. His growth is saying the kind thing before the useful one.
Which Sun Signs Can Have a Virgo Venus?
Five, and the reason is astronomy rather than astrology.
Seen from Earth, Venus stays close to the Sun. The widest gap it ever reaches, its greatest elongation, is between 45 and 47 degrees. The zodiac is a circle of 360 degrees cut into twelve signs of 30 degrees each, and Virgo is the sixth sign, so it spans 150° to 180°.
Put those together, using the 47 degree limit:
- The earliest Sun that can pair with a Venus at 150° (the first degree of Virgo): 150 minus 47 = 103°. Cancer starts at 90°, so that is 13° Cancer.
- The latest Sun that can pair with a Venus at 180° (the last degree of Virgo): 180 plus 47 = 227°. Scorpio starts at 210°, so that is 17° Scorpio.
So a Virgo Venus needs a Sun somewhere between about 13° Cancer and 17° Scorpio. Checked against Cafe Astrology’s Sun ingress times for 2026, the Sun reaches 13° Cancer on the evening of July 4 and 17° Scorpio early on November 9 (the full sum is in our notes). Dates drift a day either way from year to year, so call the birthday window roughly July 5 to November 9, about four months.
Five Sun signs fit inside that window. Every chart below is from Astro Charts:
- Cancer Sun (from about July 5): Only the last 17 degrees of Cancer qualify, and Venus has to be running well ahead of the Sun, on the side that shows after sunset. Michelle Rodriguez (born July 12, 1978) has the Sun at 19° Cancer and Venus at 0° Virgo, about 41 degrees apart. Soft shell, sharp eye.
- Leo Sun: Big heart, careful hands. Chris Hemsworth (born August 11, 1983) has the Sun at 17° Leo and Venus at 8° Virgo, about 21 degrees apart. This is by far the most common pairing on the first page of Astro Charts’ list.
- Virgo Sun: Double Virgo. Identity and affection speak the same language, and the language is attention. Blake Lively (born August 25, 1987) has the Sun at 1° Virgo and Venus at 2° Virgo, less than a degree apart.
- Libra Sun: Venus trails the Sun, on the side that shows before sunrise. Charming in the room, exacting in private. Felicity Jones (born October 17, 1983) has the Sun at 23° Libra and Venus at 8° Virgo, about 45 degrees apart.
- Scorpio Sun (to about November 9): The thin end. Only the first 17 degrees of Scorpio qualify, and Venus has to trail the Sun by 30 to 47 degrees, closer to 47 the later the birthday. Tara Reid (born November 8, 1975) has the Sun at 15° Scorpio and Venus at 29° Virgo, about 46 and a half degrees apart, right at the edge of what’s possible.
Astro Charts lists 2,069 people with Venus in Virgo. The first 30 names on that list are all Cancer, Leo, Virgo or Libra Suns, exactly as the sum predicts: 18 Leo, 6 Virgo, 4 Libra and 2 Cancer. There is no Scorpio on the first page at all; Tara Reid is on the second. A Cancer or Scorpio Sun has only 17 qualifying degrees, and the farther into Scorpio the Sun goes, the closer Venus has to be to its 47 degree limit. A Leo or Libra Sun can hold a Virgo Venus at any distance from 0 to 47 degrees.
If your Sun is in Aries, Gemini, Sagittarius or anything else outside those five, your Venus is somewhere else. To know for sure, use the free birth chart calculator.

Virgo Venus Compatibility
In our view the easiest matches for any Venus sign are usually the same element and the one that holds it. For earth, that is other earth signs and water. Here is how a Virgo Venus tends to pair with the other person’s Venus sign.
| Their Venus | Fit | In a line |
|---|---|---|
| Taurus | Natural | You build it, they enjoy it |
| Capricorn | Natural | Standards meet standards |
| Virgo | Mirror | Twice the quality control |
| Cancer | Warming | They feel, you fix |
| Scorpio | Deep | Loyal to the bone, both ways |
| Pisces | Magnetic | Your opposite: the whole meets the details |
| Gemini | Clever | Both ruled by Mercury: a plan meets options |
| Libra | Work | They want charm, you want proof |
| Aquarius | Work | Ideas meet the fine print |
| Aries | Work | Now meets checked |
| Leo | Work | Applause meets notes |
| Sagittarius | Work | Big picture meets small print |
A “Work” pairing isn’t a bad one. It’s a pairing where the two of you have to translate, and translation is a skill you can learn. Libra is worth a word: Venus is at home there and in fall here, so the same planet is speaking two dialects. The full picture, with all twelve Venus signs and the four elements explained, is in our Venus sign compatibility guide. And remember the whole chart counts: a Virgo Venus with a Leo Sun loves very differently from one with a Scorpio Sun.
Is Virgo Venus a Bad Placement?
The top result on Google for this placement is a question asking “What’s good about having a Virgo Venus, or is it just bad?” So let’s answer it straight.
By the traditional dignity table, Venus is at home in Taurus and Libra, exalted in Pisces, in detriment in Aries and Scorpio and in fall in Virgo. Wikipedia’s dignity page gives scores for the good end (+5 own sign, +4 exaltation) and none for detriment or fall, and it notes that for astrologers such as Lilly “the most important dignity was sign rulership; slightly less important was exaltation”. So the strictly traditional answer to “what’s the worst Venus placement” is the three debilities: Aries and Scorpio, where she’s in detriment, and Virgo, where she’s in fall. The strongest, by the same table, are Taurus and Libra, with Pisces just behind.
Now the part that matters. None of that measures luck. The dignities grade how easily Venus does Venus things in a sign, and in Virgo she does them with a clipboard. That makes love more effortful, not less likely. In our view the people who have to think about how they love tend to become the most deliberate, considerate partners in the room, and an easy ride is not the same thing as a good track record.
So: is a Virgo Venus bad? No. It’s demanding. Mostly of you.
Were You Born With Venus Retrograde in Virgo?
Venus turns retrograde for about six weeks roughly every 19 months, and because five of its cycles add up to almost exactly eight years, the same stretch of sky comes around again and again. One of those stretches sits on the Leo and Virgo border, and it has been sliding backward out of Virgo for decades. Cafe Astrology’s table of Venus retrogrades from 1945 to 2045 tells the story:
| Year | Retrograde | Degrees |
|---|---|---|
| 1975 | August 6 to September 17 | 11° Virgo back to 25° Leo |
| 1983 | August 3 to September 15 | 9° Virgo back to 23° Leo |
| 1991 | August 1 to September 13 | 7° Virgo back to 21° Leo |
| 1999 | July 29 to September 10 | 5° Virgo back to 18° Leo |
| 2007 | July 27 to September 8 | 2° Virgo back to 16° Leo |
| 2015 | July 25 to September 6 | 0° Virgo back to 14° Leo |
| 2023 | July 22 to September 3 | 28° Leo back to 12° Leo |
| 2031 | July 20 to September 1 | 26° Leo back to 10° Leo |
Every one of these starts in July or August and ends in Leo, and each one starts two or three days earlier and a little over two degrees further back than the last. The sum is simple: Venus lines up with the Sun the same way every 583.92 days, five of those take 2,919.6 days, and eight calendar years take 2,922, so each return runs about two and a half days early. The Virgo part of each window is its opening stretch, before Venus slides back over the Leo border. In 2015 that stretch was six days: Cafe Astrology’s page on that retrograde says Venus turned retrograde “on July 25th in the sign of Virgo, entering Leo on July 31st”. In 2023 the retrograde never reached Virgo at all, and none in the table does again: every retrograde listed through 2044 stays out of Virgo.
Go back far enough and the picture flips. In 1951 Venus went retrograde at 18° Virgo and turned direct at 2° Virgo, the whole six weeks inside the sign. Three famous Virgo Venuses were born in those older windows: Michael Keaton (September 5, 1951), Charlize Theron (August 7, 1975, the day after Venus stationed) and Chris Hemsworth (August 11, 1983) all have a retrograde Venus in Virgo on Astro Charts.
So the rule is this. Venus turned retrograde on August 6 in 1975, August 3 in 1983, August 1 in 1991, July 29 in 1999, July 27 in 2007 and July 25 in 2015, and it stays in Virgo for a while after each date. If you were born on one of those dates or in the weeks that follow, check your chart: your Virgo Venus may be retrograde. If you were born after July 31, 2015, it isn’t, and that stays true for every birth through at least 2044.
A retrograde Venus turns the volume down on the outside and up on the inside. With Virgo in the mix that tends to mean a lover who notices everything, says almost none of it, and privately keeps very high standards for their own behavior before anyone else’s. Slower to trust what they feel. Harder to fool once they do.
When Is Venus in Virgo Next?
Venus is in Virgo from August 20 to September 13, 2027, arriving on the afternoon of August 20, US Eastern time. The visit before that ran July 9 to August 6, 2026. Before that, September 19 to October 13, 2025, and August 4 to 29, 2024.
Each visit lasts about three and a half to four weeks: 25 days in 2024, 24 in 2025, 28 in 2026 and 24 in 2027. While Venus is in Virgo everyone gets a taste of this placement: more noticing, more usefulness as affection, more tidying as foreplay, more opinions about how the dishwasher should be loaded. In our view it’s a good few weeks for sorting out money, fixing what’s been bothering you in a relationship and finally booking the appointment. We recommend saving the grand romantic gestures for Venus in Libra, which follows; this is the month for the thoughtful small ones.
Here is a data point from DataForSEO. Its monthly search figures for “virgo venus” in the United States peaked at 8,100 in July 2026, while Venus was in Virgo, against 2,900 in each of December 2025, January 2026 and February 2026. That is 8,100 divided by 2,900 = 2.8 times the winter level. The spike coincides with the transit. We can’t say it was caused by it, and the September to October 2025 visit showed no spike of its own (4,400 and 3,600). Our reading: people look up a placement when they hear it’s in the sky, and in 2026 they heard.
If this is your natal placement, Venus will pass over your own Venus degree at some point during its time in Virgo; in our view it is the best week of the year to ask for what you actually want.
Growing With a Virgo Venus
- Love the person, not the draft. Write down three things your partner actually does that you love, not three things they’d be better at with your notes. Love those. If you can’t fill the list, that’s your answer, and it isn’t about them.
- Say the kind thing before the useful thing. Once a day, lead with “I love this about you” and let it stand alone, with no suggestion attached. Watch what happens to the room.
- Let someone take care of you without auditing how. They folded the towels wrong. The dinner was late. Let it be done badly and still be a gift. Receiving is a skill, and you are allowed to be a beginner at it.
When your attention learns to include yourself, a Virgo Venus becomes the rarest kind of partner: someone who sees everything about a person and chooses them anyway, on purpose, every single day.
Virgo Venus FAQ
What is a Venusian Virgo? A person whose Venus is in Virgo. Venus describes how you love, flirt and spend and what you find beautiful, so a Venusian Virgo loves the way Virgo does everything: attentively, practically and with high standards. Their Sun can be in Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra or Scorpio.
Who is Virgo’s #1 soulmate? In our view, the easiest matches for a Virgo Venus are the earth Venus signs, Taurus and Capricorn, followed by Cancer and Scorpio in water. Blavity’s guide to the placement names a Taurus Venus and a Capricorn Venus too, and calls Pisces its sister sign. In our view there is no single soulmate sign for anyone; the whole chart decides, and our Venus sign compatibility guide covers all twelve Venus signs and the four elements.
How to dress if Venus is in Virgo? Fit over flash. Natural fabrics that age well, clean lines, a small wardrobe in quiet colors that all work together, and grooming taken seriously: good shoes, clean nails, one meaningful piece of jewelry. Get the fit at the waist right, and add one piece a season that isn’t beige.
What’s the worst Venus placement? By the traditional dignity table, Venus is weakest in Aries and Scorpio (detriment) and in Virgo (fall), and strongest in Taurus and Libra (home) and Pisces (exalted). Our view is that “worst” is the wrong word. A Venus in detriment or fall has to work harder at love, and the people who do that work often turn out to be the most deliberate, considerate partners around.
Why is Venus weak in Virgo? Because Virgo is the sign opposite Pisces, where Venus is exalted, and the tradition calls the opposite of an exaltation a fall. In practice Venus wants to enjoy and Virgo wants to inspect, so love in this placement has to make sense before it’s allowed to feel good. That’s a different style of loving, not a weaker one.
What is the luckiest Venus placement in a birth chart? If luckiest means the placements tradition rates strongest, it’s Taurus and Libra, where Venus rules, and Pisces, where she is exalted, just behind. But there is no measure of luck in love, so in our view that grade is a note on how easily Venus works in a sign, not a promise about your relationships.
How do I find my Venus sign? Start with your Sun. Venus is never more than about 47 degrees from it, so a Virgo Venus is only possible with a Sun in Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra or Scorpio, birthdays from about July 5 to November 9. To know for sure, enter your birth date, time and place in our free birth chart calculator, linked above.
Is a Virgo Venus rare? Not especially. In the four visits from 2024 to 2027 (the last one still to come) Venus spends 24 to 28 days in Virgo, about 7 days in every 100 of those years. Over longer spans the figure runs a little higher. Astro Charts alone lists 2,069 people with the placement.
Is a Virgo Venus the same as a Virgo Sun? No. Your Sun sign is your identity; your Venus sign is how you love. You can have a Virgo Venus with a Cancer, Leo, Libra or Scorpio Sun, and a Virgo Sun can have its Venus in Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra or Scorpio. If both are in Virgo, you’re a double Virgo, and everything on this page is turned up.
“You see everything. Choosing someone anyway isn’t settling. It’s the most honest kind of love there is.”
